Virtual Communication by Max Hautala

COURSE: Art 429: Digital Rendering

MEDIUM: Graphic Essay

DESCRIPTION:
New forms of virtual communication, such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook are important motifs in my work because they prompt a desire for pre-surveillance, pre-internet life, and document the ever-growing and dominating digital and mechanical world. The exaggerated use of color and form in my woodcut prints and mixed-media installations create a dizzying effect so that my prints become non-objective, like a screen.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
My research goal is to stimulate and support highly innovative and groundbreaking research. Collaboration between the arts, education policy, and curriculum studies has taught me to value and support collaborative, multidisciplinary, multi-investigator research projects that are high-risk, high-impact, and establish new avenues for innovative and significant research.
