DESCRIPTION:
Köppen Climates Visualized is a large-format infographic poster of the Köppen-Geiger climate classification. Using a one-geographic-degree global grid, it combines a central world climate map with glyphs of monthly temperature and precipitation at each grid point, enlarged legends, climate-type summaries, annual comparison graphics, and reference charts of temperature and precipitation. Major cities and climate types are also labeled on the main map to support clearer lookup and comparison.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
I created this poster as a coherent and detailed visual reference for the Köppen-Geiger system. My goal was to integrate map, legend, and comparison graphics into a single layout so viewers could move more naturally between climate types, labeled locations, global distribution, and broader spatiotemporal patterns. It is intended for students, educators, researchers, and general audiences interested in climate and geography. This project won the Mapping Poster category in the Wisconsin Land Information Association 2026 Map Contest. Project page:
