COURSE: Art 107: Introduction to Digital Forms
MEDIUM: Digital Collage, Poster
DESCRIPTION:
This piece humorously reimagines Michelangelo’s biblical scenes with God from The Creation of Adam and a distressed figure from The Last Judgment. Set in a pool hall, God is portrayed playing pool with planets as balls, positioned dramatically on the left side of the green table. Opposite him stands the distressed figure, hands covering his face in despair. The lighting emphasizes the action and drama, capturing the instant before impact. The art blends Renaissance realism with modern digital techniques, using muted tones that contrast with the vibrant pool table. This playful yet thought-provoking work juxtaposes divine creation with a contemporary, surreal twist, balancing humor and classical artistry.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
Genesis on the Green Felt started with me combining older images and stock visuals, trying to reimagine them into something unexpected. When I came across Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam and The Last Judgment, the idea hit me to rework these iconic figures into a playful, modern setting. Using Photoshop, I blended Renaissance-style details with a digital aesthetic to create a scene where God is playing pool with planets, while a distressed figure watches. The dramatic lighting and focus on the pool table were key to adding tension and humor. This piece is all about imagining “what could be” by transforming the familiar into something entirely new and thought-provoking.
