COURSE: Art 356: Coding for Graphic Design
MEDIUM: Video/Animation, Code Art, Audio, Data Visualization
DESCRIPTION:
The open-source programming language Processing, created by Ben Fry and Casey Reas, was used to execute the computational drawings and mouse interactions. The Sound Library for Processing was utilized in order to use the audio Claude Debussy’s “Arabesque no. 1 (Ciccolini),” sourced from Youtube user ClassicalScores.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
Journey of Pollen is an abstract exploration of the capabilities of computational drawing and interaction. The user controls the hummingbird as it journeys to collect and spread pollen to its surroundings. The user explores their setting through the lens of the hummingbird. Through the interaction between multiple ellipses and the positioning of the mouse the user can interact with the position of the hummingbird and the pattern of the interlocking lines of circles. Journey of Pollen utilizes a bright color scheme in combination with Claude Debussy’s “Arabesque No. 1 (Ciccolini)” to give the user a fun and whimsical feeling throughout the experience.
