COURSE: Digital Studies 140: Visual Thinking: Form and Space

DESCRIPTION:
Inspired by the community response to ICE deployment in Minnesota, this collage shows the characters Calvin and Hobbes helping protect their neighbors amidst the chaos. The photographic elements are intermixed with graphic comic-style accents to highlight the gravity and drama of these current events.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
I drew the comic elements digitally and then created the collage in Photoshop. I am traditionally a painter and illustrator, but in my study of design, I’ve had to apply my ideas to different media. I wanted to use this project as an opportunity to talk about something I care about, raise awareness, and create space for humor in this dark era.
