MEDIUM: Map, Poster, Game
DESCRIPTION:
In 2024, I started creating a series of LEGO-style topographic maps with various forms and designs, some of which have won several awards, making me realize that many others might share the same interest. Therefore, I compiled these attempts into this poster as a mini gallery.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
This poster presents a curated collection of my recent LEGO topographic map creations, styled as an art gallery. At its center is an introductory section, surrounded by seven topographic maps I designed in 2024, represented through both physical and virtual LEGO models, each accompanied by descriptive paragraphs. While unified by shared elements such as layered topographic displays and harmonious color schemes, each map showcases its own unique character. The forms range from orthographic graphics and 3D renderings to physical LEGO models, while styles span from individual unit compositions to smooth, flowing surfaces. The maps vary further in their extents, baseplate sizes, scales of LEGO units, and cartographic designs, including point symbols, labels, legends, north arrows, and neatlines. Through this mini gallery, I invite audiences to explore these maps and experience the joy of rediscovering landscapes through this playful and imaginative medium. OTHER INFORMATION:
Beyond the various awards of the individual LEGO maps, as illustrated within the image, this poster itself also won the runner-up of Mapping Poster Award during Wisconsin Land Information Association (WLIA) 2025 Annual Conference Map Contest, and has been displayed in LEGO showcase events.
