“The World in Pieces” by Tyler Vergin

COURSE: Art 107: Introduction to Digital Forms

MEDIUM: Digital Collage

DESCRIPTION:
For “The World in Pieces,” I focused on breaking down different landscapes into basic shapes and editing photos to emphasize their colors. I experimented with layering and rearranging pieces to show how places that seem completely different are actually part of the same world. This entire piece was created in Adobe Photoshop, individually editing and retouching each photo before placing it into the final collage.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
“The World in Pieces” is about the contrast and connection between different landscapes. I wanted to show how places that seem completely separate (mountains, deserts, oceans, and forests) are actually part of the same world. I used geometric shapes and bold colors to guide the eye across different environments, almost like flipping through photos of different places. At its core, this piece is a reminder of how diverse and beautiful our planet is, but also how easily it can change. Through time, climate change, or human impact, these places are constantly changing. I hope this piece makes people stop and think about the bigger picture, how everything is connected, even when it feels like the world is in pieces.
