MEDIUM: Map/Data Visualization
DESCRIPTION:
This static atlas is a collaboration between Wisconsin Sea Grant, a NOAA-funded program dedicated to the stewardship of the Great Lakes, and the UW-Madison Cartography Lab. This state-level access will show public access points to Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
I was tasked with developing a basemap and style for a print atlas. Wanting to go beyond the typical atlas, the palette was inspired by city maps and illustrated atlases of the 1960s. I developed the basemap and style, documented process, trained two cartographers on the production process, and facilitated peer reviews. While my time at the Cartography Lab will end before the atlas is finished, I organized the assets and documents so that the next cartographer will be able to pick up where I left off and bring the map to print.
