MEDIUM: Installation; Digital Illustration
Inspired by Foucault’s concept of heterotopic spaces, we use formal elements of projection, installation, and sculpture to examine whether autobiographical memory forms a kind of intimate, internal heterotopia.
Our aim is to blur the line between Foucault’s understanding of heterotopias as socially and historically defined counter-sites and a more intimate, alternative space of autobiographical memory as a place of inner refuge and reconstruction. How do internal spaces of memory interact with social and historical counter-sites? How is our autobiographical constitution of selfhood influenced by heterotopic spaces? How can we define autobiographical memory as a counter-site? We aim for this piece to represent the intimate heterotopic spaces we’re exploring.
