DESCRIPTION:
The two motifs present in this piece are a papaya and a pair of crossed legs. I created this pattern using Adobe Illustrator.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
This piece was inspired by the Vagina Monologues. I wanted to create a design that addressed the stigma around vulvas and vaginas– I wanted to show that they are natural and normal. In order to communicate this, I included papayas, which are made by nature and therefore, natural. Also, papayas have a yonic look to them, thus making them the ideal fruit to depict the genitalia.
