COURSE: Independent
MEDIUM: Audio
DESCRIPTION:
In this episode of The Advocate Society, we spoke with Professor Ion Meyn from the University of Wisconsin Law School, and discussed his current research relating to how police departments around the country determine the reasonableness of their use of force.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
We felt that after the murder of George Floyd in May 2020, we felt like we needed to address the issue of police brutality during the first episode of the school year. Given the impact of the gruesome event and demands for social change since, we use this episode to talk through the reasons why it’s so hard to get justice when a police officer goes too far, what the possible solutions are, and at the very end, Professor Meyn offers us all a glimpse of hope and a path out of the mess we’re in.
