DESCRIPTION:
Inside/Outside is a body of work exploring the body as both a physical form and ephemeral presence. The body is simultaneously a boundary and a container, yet so much of it remains unseen, unknowable, and private to us. We spend most of our lives without knowing what our insides look like or why we are tormented by the darkness in our psyche. This work examines the body in its physical and psychological form, highlighting the tension between what is shown and what is concealed.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
Vivian Ye is a Bachelor of Fine Arts student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison whose practice spans multimedia and 4D installations. Guided by a sustained interest in the mortality and transmutation of lived experiences and emotions, her work explores the cyclical nature of intimacy, loss, and transformation through interdisciplinary methods. She is particularly drawn to how psychological and physical boundaries shape selfhood, especially in moments of rupture and reconnection. Through a series of six to eight hand-built sculptures that elicit feelings of discomfort and intrigue, she combines the separation of identities and re-emergence of sensory elements to mirror the complexities of emotional experiences.
