MEDIUM: Digital Illustration
DESCRIPTION:
My piece explores the idea of breaking free from expectations and finding identity through creativity. It’s a self-portrait of me stepping out of a canvas frame while wrapped in chains, symbolizing the pressures and limitations placed on me. The boxing gloves represent struggle and resilience, while the paintbrush represents the beauty of art as a tool for expression and freedom. The bright colors, butterflies, and birds surround me to symbolize my growth, transformation, and release that comes from creating. The contrast between restraint and movement reflects the internal battle between who I am expected to be and who I choose to become. Through this piece, I wanted to show how art can transform struggle into something expressive, powerful, and alive.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
I am Anna Batzler. I have a creative mind, and I turn ideas into visuals that make people feel something. I love what I do because art lets me speak a language words can’t. It processes life. The beauty and the pain. The in-between moments. And turns them into something that means something to someone else. Art-Design- Creation, to me…isn’t just decoration. It’s the pulse. A reminder that we’re alive. That we feel. That emotion, curiosity, and self-expression are the most powerful forms of connection we have. Every piece I make is an exploration of the connection between color and feeling, movement and the story, artist and viewer. I don’t want my art just to be looked at; I want to be felt inside the chest, remembered, and embedded. My work is driven by emotion, memory, and the beautiful chaos that lives between who we are and the world. That’s why I love what I do.
