ritual / release / roses by Swan Ferraro & Krista Bloom

MEDIUM: Video

DESCRIPTION:
A somatic full moon ritual performed by two friends to release gender expectations & longings that were holding them back.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
By utilizing the body as a form of storytelling, I ask, what does healing mean? Healing comes in waves, and I examine how these waves relate to visible and invisible landscapes. In the landscape of the body, I surrender to the holy act of creation itself and creation in terms of the self. Experiencing trauma has forced me to grieve my prior identity and create a new self. The in-between of having no self at all—the abandonment of identity—opens up a new way of existing and creating.

I make art to abstract identity and place, to explore these as areas of healing. By surrendering to my intuition, art-making becomes a spiritual practice. My current research is titled Creative Improvisation as Divination in the Trans Body. I find magic in transformation, whether it’s with materials, ideas, or the body.
