My Cousin Jess by Christopher Ploumidis

COURSE: English 100

This piece is an audio essay about how the song “Same Drugs” by Chance the Rapper relates to my life and my cousin Jess. I talked about one of my best friends in the world, Jess, and how childhood is all but over for us and the heartbreak of getting older. I talk about friendship and growing apart and remembering the good times and the bad times.

I created this submission as an assignment for one of my classes. I ended up putting a lot of work into it because the subject was something I really cared about. This essay was really important to me as far as the subject goes. Chance the Rapper is one of my favorite artists, and “Coloring Book” is one of those albums I can listen to on repeat for hours. The subject of my piece is my best friend Jess. She actually goes here and she has always been there for me. I had a really tough year last year as far as life goes and she really helped me through everything that happened. I am forever grateful that she’s in my life, and I always have someone to call when things aren’t going well. I guess as an artist you could describe me as someone who really likes Chance the Rapper and really cares about his friends. In a more real sense I never really considered myself an artist when I started this piece; this was my first time using audio editing software and I learned I really liked it. I realized that it is really easy to talk and write about something when it is close to your heart. I also might be pursuing a double major in comm arts.
