MEDIUM: Map, Data Visualization
DESCRIPTION:
WUI maps generated from a time Landsat satellite data for 2020 for five selected regions within Mediterranean biome. The map differentiates into interface WUI (building near wildland vegetation) and intermix WUI (buildings intermingle with wildland vegetation) and is further discriminated into woody and non-woody vegetated WUI types. The background map shows classified land cover fractions in sequence, first layer > 30% impervious fraction, second layer > 30% woody vegetation, third layer > 30% non-woody vegetation, and then terrestrial surface and water.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
I am a graduate student in the department of forest and wildlife ecology. I work with satellite data from NASA to investigate and monitor human-environmental interactions and expanding settlements into woodland and investigate related issues, interactions, and wildfires. In my free time I am also interested in designing and creating designs, logos, and art.
